When British Swim School was founded in 1981, founder Rita Goldberg set out to bring a much-needed service to her local community in Manchester, England.

A Brief History of British Swim School
Believe it or not, British Swim School was born after many months of council meetings and permitting disputes to install a basement pool in Rita Goldberg’s Manchester home! The swim school first opened to 120 children and grew rapidly due to the critical need for survival-based swimming instruction.
Over the next twelve months, countless hours were dedicated to perfecting the gentle and highly effective teaching methods that are a recognized trademark of the brand today. In fact, most of our teaching methods have remained unchanged over our 40-year history!
Ten years later, British Swim School was brought to the United States before subsequently launching a franchise system to bring survival-based swimming lessons and water safety education to as many communities as possible!

Flash forward to today and British Swim School is recognized as the fastest growing swim school franchise in the US, with over 60 franchise locations and over 215 schools.
Over the course of our 40-year history, British Swim School has taught nearly 100,000 students – and counting – how to be safer, stronger swimmers!
