Meet Lake County Instructor Rima!

British Swim School instructor Rima smiling

Rima has been an instructor with British Swim School for about 1 ½ years and is passionate about motivating and bringing confidence to students while promoting safety skills. She believes water safety is the most important part of lessons in all ages, especially for beginners, as they carry those skills for future progress. Her favorite class to teach is Shark 1 because students in this level start becoming more confident and determined to work hard, no matter how tiring class gets for them. She also enjoys seeing the amount of growth students show in this level, and feels happy when she sees her students improve and move to the next level. Her favorite part about working for British Swim School is the amount she has learned that she applies to daily life, such as being careful and showing compassion for others and herself.

As a child, Rima always looked forwards to her swimming lessons in the summer. Swimming is calming and always helped her when she was angry or upset. So, she utilizes it as a way of therapy for herself. Rima is currently majoring in Psychology and believes mental health, healthy eating, and overall physiology lead to perfect happiness and healthiness in a person. Her dream job would be a therapist, yoga teacher, or some kind of nutritionist, as she aspires to be able to help guide and teach people in making healthy decisions in life. When she is not working or studying for school, Rima enjoys her free time with family, friends, and her hobbies. Her favorite games to play are minesweeper, solitaire, and of course, Kingdom of Hearts. She also enjoys playing card games with her younger brother, and older sister. She is fluent in Gujarati, and is working on being fluent in Spanish in the future. Her other hobbies include singing in choir, playing the violin, and dancing around to Bollywood music in her room.

Rima was motivated to become a swimming instructor after a visit to the waterpark with her three cousins and the rest of her family when she was 13. Being new to the country and not knowing how to swim, all three of her cousins managed to have drowning experiences throughout their time at the park, and the last straw was when a lifeguard didn’t notice her youngest cousin flailing after coming out of a waterslide. Luckily, the water was shallow enough for Rima to help. After this, she realized that even though there may be lifeguards, it truly is important that kids also know how to save themselves in the water.
